President Arroyo pardons Joseph “Erap” Estrada

President Arroyo granted full pardon to former president Estrada which was convicted guilty of plunder following a recommendation by the Department of Justice (DoJ) and hoping to easy the present political tension on ZTE deal and cash giveaways to some of the governors.

The president adviser Ronaldo Puno said Mrs Arroyo agonized on matter as she had been receiving comments from various sectors since Acting Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera announced that Estrada has made an appeal for unconditional pardon. and under a policy of releasing prisoners who have reached 70 years of age.

Because of this news, an online petition is now circulating for the immediate resignation of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Vice President Manuel “Noli” de Castro Jr., with Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV kicking off the signature drive.

Desperate Housewives producers apologize for the remarks

Days after airing the season premiere of “Desperate Housewives”, the Filipino around the world went crazy about thing said about the Philippines medical doctors by one of its main character, Susan Mayer as racial slur. This prompted the ABC Studious and the producers of “Desperate Housewives” to issued a statement apologizing for a remark made by the character Susan Mayer, played by Teri Hatcher asking Dr. Mayfair about his credential to make sure he did not obtain it from a medical school in the Philippines.

The official statement of ABC Studios reads:
“The producers of ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ABC Studios offer our sincere apologies for any offense caused by the brief reference in the season premiere. There was no intent to disparage the integrity of any aspect of the medical community in the Philippines. As leaders in broadcast diversity, we are committed to presenting sensitive and respectful images of all communities featured in our programs.”
